Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer, Toilet Ek Prem Katha maker Shree Narayan Singh’s another social drama Batti Gul Meter Chalu earned Rs 6.76 crore at box-office on Day 1.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that Batti Gul Meter Chalu made a low collection on Day 1. Announcing the first day collection of Batti Gul Meter Chalu, he wrote, ‘’#BattiGulMeterChalu has a low Day 1, despite partial holiday... Biz will have to multiply two-fold or three-fold on Day 2 and Day 3 for a respectable weekend total... Fri ₹ 6.76 cr. India biz. #BGMC.’’
Apart from Shahid and Shraddha, Batti Gul and Meter Chalu also features Divyendu Sharma and Yami Gautam in pivotal roles. The film is set in Uttarakhand and the story revolves around electricity theft problem in rural India and about the inflated electricity bills.
Batti Gul Meter Chalu box office collection Day 1:
The movie is based on the electricity crisis in small towns and villages, faulty meters, negligence and forgery by electricity companies and also talks about saving power. Yes, the movie shows all these issues in bits and pieces but has some major flaws. The first twenty minutes of Batti Gul Meter Chalu is completely waste and ears bleed on hearing 'thehra and bal' innumerable times. These two words have been used to bring authenticity to the dialect the characters are using but it just doesn't work. The first half-an-hour is all about the camaraderie among three best friends- kamina kapati lawyer SK (Shahid), local fashion designer Lalita Nautiyal aka Nauti (Shraddha Kapoor) and sidha-sada Sundar Mohan Tripathi (Divyendu). There is forced wit and humour and dialogues are to be blamed for this.
