Ayushmann Khurrana starrer but ruled by Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao, Badhaai Ho was always destined to do good business at the box office. Based on the tried and test formula of neighbourhood tales with an ensemble of relatable characters, this Amit Sharma film cast its magic on the audience right from the trailer. The footfall on the opening day of the film in theatres were suggestive enough of the success meted by this situational comedy. Also starring Sanya Malhotra and Surekha Sikri, Badhaai Ho minted Rs 7.29 crore on its day 1.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the numbers on his official account and wrote, “#BadhaaiHo takes a FLYING START… Gets the advantage of partial holiday… Expected to score over the weekend… Thu ₹ 7.29 cr. India biz.”
Interestingly, these were the numbers when Badhaai Ho released a day before Dussehra, on a working Thursday. It also faced a slight competition from a mainstream Bollywood rom-com Namaste England starring Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra. However, despite the unfavourable situations, Badhaai Ho won with flying colours. The box office numbers for Namaste England are not out yet, but citing the footfall, the film stands a little lower than Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer.
