Ayushmann Khurrana’s Badhaai Ho drew mileage from Thugs of Hindostan’s massive failure at the box office. The film picked up pace after TOH’s release, which proved to be a dud among the audience. However, another film’s failure is not the reason why this Amit Sharma film is faring wonderfully at the BO. The film, which is based on an unusual premise of unplanned pregnancy in old age, has been received well by both critics as well as audience. Right from its release, Badhaai Ho has garnered immense praise from the critics across the country. Even weeks after its official release, the film refuses to slow down at the box office. To this day, families and youngsters prefer to watch Badhaai Ho in theatres rather than wasting time and money on a mediocre film.
Despite being in its sixth week, Badhaai Ho, which was earlier expected to bundle up at Rs 115 crore, is easy hitting the Rs 140 crore mark. It has also beaten India’s biggest blockbuster Baahubali 2 in terms of the sixth week box office numbers. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion earned Rs 3.35 crore in its sixth week while Ayushmann Khurrana’s Badhaai Ho made Rs 3.95 crore.
Badhaai Ho is now the sixth highest grossing film of 2018, beating Stree, which was another content-driven film offered by another talented actor Rajkummar Rao.
Ayushmann Khurrana’s AndhaDhun also did great business at the box office. It made Rs 80 lakhs in its eight weekend, which is in the same range as Prabhas’ Baahubali 2.
