Vibrant actress Alia Bhatt, who was lastly seen in a colourful character in Badrinath Ki Dulhania and a Bihari migrant in Udta Punjab, will now be seen playing a Kashmiri girl in Meghana Gulzar’s film titled as Raazi. The film, which also stars Vicky Kaushal is being widely shot in the Kashmir Valley, has been locked for release on May 11 2018.
Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is co-producing the film, tweeted on Tuesday: "Exciting date announcement! 'Raazi' releasing May 11, 2018... Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal."
Meghna, who has earlier made films like "Filhaal..." and "Talvar", is the daughter of celebrated writer Gulzar and veteran actress Raakhee.
For "Raazi", which narrates the story of a Kashmiri girl married to a Pakistani Army officer, she has cast actors Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
The espionage thriller is based on Harinder Sikka's novel "Calling Sehmat", and is being shot in Punjab, Kashmir and Mumbai.
Based on Harinder Sikka's bestselling novel, Calling Sehmat, the film revolves around a Kashmiri spy (Alia Bhatt) who gets married to a Pakistani Army Officer (Vicky Kaushal). And taking the plot in mind, Kashmir forms an integral part of the narrative. However, before the project can go on floors, it has run into its first hurdle — the makers have been unable to get the necessary permissions to shoot in the Valley, given the state of unrest there.
Recently a unit member informed, "The original plan was to start the shoot in the Valley. However, Kashmir has been knocked off in the first schedule. Rumours are rife that Ansarul Khilafah Jammu Kashmir (the Indian facet of the IS) is threatening the local police with violence and, in such a situation, it's in everyone's best interest to not shoot the film in the state."
