After actor Ajay Devgn became the first Bollywood celebrity to openly say that he would not share screen space with Pakistani actors, his wife actress Kajol has supported his stand. On the micro- blogging website Twitter, Kajol wrote that she is proud of her husband for taking a non-political stand on the issue.
During an interview recently, Ajay said that given the current climate of hostility between countries India and Pakistan, not working with artistes from across the border seems obvious. He added that he doesn’t care if his movie is not released in Pakistan.
Ajay’s upcoming movie ‘Shivaay’ is pitted against Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ which features Pak actor Fawad Khan.
Taking a clear stand on the matter, Ajay said that he is an Indian first. He went ahead and said that Pakistani artistes are earning money in India and standing by their country.
“I don't care if my film doesn't release in Pakistan. Their artistes are standing by their nation. They are earning here but are sticking by their nation. We should learn from them,” said Ajay.
The 47-year old actor said that though he understands that artistes are not terrorists, art and culture can’t be exchanged when bullets are being fired from both sides.
Salman Khan and Karan Johar had said banning Pakistani artistes from working in Bollywood was not a solution but there are many in the industry who have supported such a move in the wake of rising tension between the two countries.
When asked about his take on Salman's and Karan's comments on the matter, Ajay said,
"It's saddening. You need to take a stand."
After the interview, Ajay took to Twitter to shut all those who thought he was speaking against his friends. This is what he tweeted:
