After months of illness, veteran Bollywood actor Vinod Khanna passed away in a Mumbai hospital on Thursday. He was reportedly suffering from bladder cancer since a long time. Watch Video

According to fresh reports, the body has arrived at his residence and funeral will take place shortly at the Banganga Crematorium in Worli.

B-town stars such as Ranjeet and Rishi Kapoor will attend the funeral. Danny Denzongpa and Kabir Bedi have already reached the spot.

The veteran actor, called one of the most handsome men in the industry, featured in as many as 146 films. He was last seen in Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale (2015). Vinod Khanna had given hit films like Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Dayavan, Amar Akbar Anthony. 

After months of illness, Vinod Khanna passes away

 Vinod Khanna, who was admitted to the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital breathed his last at 11.20 am, he was fighting advanced bladder carcinoma, the hospital statement read.

The 70-year-old actor, who was a Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Gurdaspur in Punjab, was admitted to Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre in Girgaon, Mumbai. 

Recently, a picture showing a pale-looking Vinod Khanna standing with the help of two people had gone viral. 

The legendary actor started his filmy career with Mann Ke Meet, was known for fabulous work in films like Amar Akbar Anthony, Dayavan and Hera Pheri. The actor, who was born in Peshawar in 1947, stayed away from films for five years at the peak of his career and joined the ashram of Osho in Rajneeshpuram.

Vinod Khanna was married twice and is survived by his four children - sons Akshaye, Rahul, Sakhsi and daughter Shraddha.

His co-stars and other actors took to Twitter to pay respects to the brilliant actor. His co-actor in highly-successful film Amar Akbar Anthony, Rishi Kapoor is very emotional:

He wrote in another tweet: Strange coincidence. Friends Vinod Khanna and Feroz Khan die the same day 27th April. Khan sahab passed away 27th April 2009 Bangalore.

Khanna's political journey

Vinod Khanna joined politics in 1997. He got elected from Gurdaspur on a BJP ticket in the next year's Lok Sabha poll. And during the time of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government he became Union minister for culture and tourism in 2002. Later, he became a minister of state in the Ministry of External Affairs. Khanna lost the 2009 election, but was elected again from Gurdaspur in 2014. Vinod Khanna had been MP four times on BJP ticket.
