After Thugs of Hindostan getting leaked online, there was no denying that the makers of the big-budget film 2.0 starring Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson were afraid of online theft this time as well. Considering that the film is made on a budget on INR 535 crores, it is important to garner good box-office numbers and become a blockbuster. To make sure that the film doesn’t get leaked online, the Madras High Court has directed 37 internet service providers (ISPs) to block over 12,000 websites that exhibit pirated versions of Tamil movies.
Yes, this step has been taken to ensure there is no robbery of Rajinikanth’s film online. The list of blocked websites includes more than 2,000 websites operated by TamilRockers. Justice M Sundar passed the order on Wednesday while allowing a plea moved by Lyca Productions Private Limited, the producer of Rajinikanth starrer 2.0. When the plea came up, Lyca’s counsel Vijayan Subramanian put forward a big list of 12,564 illegal websites which were a threat to online piracy.
The counsel contended that when TamilRockers website is blocked, it immediately creates mirror websites by changing an insignificant part of the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) or any other extension, and are therefore able to reinstate the infringing material with minimal effort. Subramanian produced a probable list of extension of TamilRockers and sought an injunction against all such websites. Well, this will surely ensure good box office numbers for Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0.
Talking about the film, it has been released in more than 7,000 screens in India and worldwide, including Chennai, on November 29. The movie has released in around 14 languages, including Mandarin in China.
