Shiggaon Assembly Election Results 2023: Outgoing CM Bommai wins from Shiggoan for 4th time in row
In the 2018 elections, BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai won the Shiggaon Assembly seat after securing 83868 votes.
Shiggaon Assembly Election Results 2023: Outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday registered his fourth consecutive victory from the Shiggoan constituency in Haveri district, defeating his nearest rival Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan of the Congress by a margin of 35,341 votes. The BJP leader bagged 99,073 votes against 63,732 polled by Pathan. JD(S)'s Shashidhar Yeligar was in third place with 13,794 votes. The 63-year-old Bommai, who is the son of former Karnataka chief minister and Janata Parivar veteran late S R Bommai, had the 2018 Assembly polls defeated the Congress' Sayed Azeempeer Khadri by a margin of 9,265 votes. The 2008 and 2013 polls also witnessed a close fight between Bommai and Khadri with the former emerging victorious by a margin of 12,862 and 9,503 votes respectively. The 2008 state election was Bommai's first as a BJP candidate after quitting the Janata Dal (United). Shiggoan, which was once considered a Congress stronghold, has not been won by the grand old party since. The JD(S) won the seat in 1999 and an Independent candidate in 2004.
Shiggaon comes under the Haveri district of Karnataka. Shiggaon Assembly Constituency falls under the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency. Shiggaon constituency is seen as the stronghold of the BJ as Bommai has previously won three elections here in 2008, 2013 and 2018. In the 2018 elections, Bommai won the Shiggaon Assembly seat after securing 83868 votes. The BJP candidate defeated Congress candidate Sayed Azeempeer Khadri by a margin of 9265 votes.
Karnataka India TV-CNX EXIT POLL 2023
According to the India TV-CNX exit poll, the Congress will emerge as the single largest party in the Karnataka assembly elections by winning 110 to 120 seats. The party may either get a clear majority, or its tally could be a few seats short of the magic number. The exit poll seat projections show, Congress may win 110-120 seats in the 224-seat assembly, the ruling BJP may come second with 80-90 seats, Janata Dal(S) may win 20-24 seats, while 'Others' including independents may win 1-3 seats.
