Shiggaon Assembly Election Results 2023: Outgoing CM Bommai wins from Shiggoan for 4th time in row

 Outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday registered his fourth consecutive victory from the Shiggoan constituency in Haveri district, defeating his nearest rival Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan of the Congress by a margin of 35,341 votes.

The BJP leader bagged 99,073 votes against 63,732 polled by Pathan. JD(S)'s Shashidhar Yeligar was in third place with 13,794 votes.

The 63-year-old Bommai, who is the son of former Karnataka chief minister and Janata Parivar veteran late S R Bommai, had the 2018 Assembly polls defeated the Congress' Sayed Azeempeer Khadri by a margin of 9,265 votes.

The 2008 and 2013 polls also witnessed a close fight between Bommai and Khadri with the former emerging victorious by a margin of 12,862 and 9,503 votes respectively. The 2008 state election was Bommai's first as a BJP candidate after quitting the Janata Dal (United).

Shiggoan, which was once considered a Congress stronghold, has not been won by the grand old party since.

CM Basavaraj Bommai is maintaining a massive lead with 18,990 votes. Bommai has bagged 63,384 votes while Congress  Pathan Yasirahmedkhan has got only 44394 votes so far. 

"In spite of a lot of efforts put in by PM and BJP workers, we've not been able to make the mark. Once the full results come we'll do a detailed analysis. We take this result in our stride to come back in Lok Sabha elections," said Karnataka CM Bommai.

As per the ECI, CM Bommai leading in Shiggaon by 21,519 votes. Bommai has secured 59242 votes so far while Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan of Congress is at second place with 37723 votes.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai is leading by 12679 votes from Shiggaon assembly constituency. Bommai has garnered 5,795 votes while Yasir Ahmed khan Pathan of Congress is at second place with 3,406 votes.

Incumbent CM Basavaraj Bommai is leading on Shiggaon seat in early trends.

"Today is a big day for Karnataka as the people's verdict for the state will be out. I am confident that BJP will win with absolute majority and give a stable government," said Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai, in Hubballi.

The counting of votes begins in all 224 Karnataka Assembly constituencies. As many as 2,615 candidates in the fray.

In the 2018 Karnataka polls, Bommai had secured 49.5 per cent vote share defeating Sayed Azeempeer Khadri of Congress. 

In the 2018 Karnataka Elections, BJP candidate Basavaraj Bommai won with a margin of 9,265 from the Shiggaon constituency of Karnataka. Bommai won the Shiggaon Assembly seat after securing 83868 votes.

Shiggaon is one of the most watched contests as it will be a close race between Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Congress candidate Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan. Other contestants include Sashidhar Channabasappa Yaligar from the Janata Dal Secular (JDS), Indian Movement Party’s Khajamohiddin Gudageri, Karnataka Rashtra Samithi’s Shambulinga Hukkeri, Aam Aadmi Party’s Mahaboobsab Dadusab Kalebag and independents.

Karnataka witnessed a record voter turnout of 73.19 per cent in the single-phase polling held on May 10. There were over 11.71 lakh first-time voters registered in the state.

The counting of votes for the aggressively contested Karnataka assembly elections 2023 will be held on Saturday, to elect the 224 members of the state Assembly. The counting will take place across 36 centres to decide the fate of 2,615 candidates today.
