Meghalaya result: NPP dials BJP for support, saffron party says ok as state ends in hung assembly
Meghalaya Election Result: NPP supremo Conrad Sangma called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah asking the BJP for support. The saffron camp without any hesitation agreed to form the alliance government.
Meghalaya Election Result Updates: With the counting of votes for the Meghalaya Assembly polls coming to an end on Thursday, the National People's Party (NPP) emerged victorious as the single largest party with 26 seats. NPP supremo Conrad Sangma later called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to form an alliance inorder to form the state government. It is to be noted that no party was able to touch the required majority mark on its won. Meanwhile, TMC won 5 seats and BJP was able to secure only 2 seats. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma won the South Tura seat with a margin of over 5000 votes. The People's Democratic Front bagged 2 seats, the United Democratic Party won 11 seats, the Voice of the People party won 4 seats and Hill State People's Democratic Party won 2 seats. Other than this, the Congress party also won 5 seats, while 2 seats were bagged by independent candidates. Meanwhile, the elections were held in Meghalaya on February 27. The Himalayan state recorded a 76 percent voter turnout.
