Karnataka Elections 2023: With the Karnataka Assembly elections scheduled to be held next month, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) conducted its Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting today (April 9) at the party headquarters in the national capital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi left the BJP office after concluding the meeting on Sunday.
The list of candidates is likely to be released in a day or two.
CM Basavaraj Bommai to contest from Shiggaon:
After the end of the BJP CEC meeting, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the party will announce the list of candidates for the assembly polls in a day or two. CM Bommai also announced that he is contesting from the Shiggaon constituency.
Talking to the media persons, Basavraj Bommai said, "We discussed the overall list for the Karnataka elections and probably we will sit again tomorrow. The list will be announced tomorrow or the day after that. I am contesting from the Shiggaon constituency".
BJP chief JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, and others also attended the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting for Karnataka Assembly elections 2023.
Senior leader BS Yediyurappa, state chief Nalin Kumar Kateel also attended the meeting on Sunday.
Earlier on Saturday (April 8), Shah held a meeting at Nadda's residence in the national capital to discuss and finalise the list of candidates for the May 10 poll.
2018 results:
In the 2018 Assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the largest single party in the last Assembly elections, winning 104 seats, with the Congress winning 80 and the JD(S) 37 seats.
When election will be held:
Karnataka is slated to go to Assembly polls on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13.
