Karnataka Elections 2023: The southern state witnessed nearly 65.69 per cent turnout on Wednesday.

Karnataka Elections 2023:: After the high-octane campaign, people of the state decided the fate of  2,615 candidates in  224-member state assembly on Wednesday. The vote turnout was nearly 65.69 per cent. According to the Election Commission of India, the voting for the assembly elections started at 7 am and culminated at 6 pm today. The majority mark to form the government is 113 seats. The voting held across 58,545 polling stations including auxiliary polling stations. A total of 42,48,028 new voters have been registered to vote for the assembly elections. As many as 5.3 crore general voters went to cast their vote in 58,545 polling stations in 37,777 locations. Out of which 11,71,558 were young voters and 12,15,920 were 80+ senior citizen voters. There were also 5,71,281 PwD voters. Around 4,00,000 polling personnel were engaged in poll processes.

    'Will not form alliance with JD(S)': Karnataka Congress chief Shivakumar

    Karnataka Congress DK Shivakumar dismissed a post-poll alliance with Janata Dal (Secular) JD(S) expressing confidence that his party will get an absolute majority in the 224-seat assembly.     The state has witnessed rather a slow voting in the first five hours of the polling as 37.25% voter turnout was recorded till 1 pm. The voting started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm today.

    CM Basavaraj Bommai takes dig at Congress over corruption issue

    Speaking to the media, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai took a dig at Congress over the corruption issue, claiming many of its leaders are in jail. All three major political parties in the state -- BJP, Congress and the Janata Dal-Secular (JDS)-- have put in efforts to woo voters, making promises and levelling accusations at each other to secure a majority in the state. The Lingayat and Vokkaliga voters will play a major factor in the elections. Lingayats comprise 17% of the population and Vokkaligas 11%.
