India TV Opinion Poll: BJP likely to retain UP with absolute majority, SP to better 2017 tally | Highlights
Ahead of the high-stakes Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2022, India TV-Ground Zero Research Team conducted an opinion poll to gauge the mood of voters and to determine which political party is having an edge over the other. Catch all the updates here.
BJP is projected to win a comfortable majority in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2022, however, it may score less seats than 2017 polls, according to India TV-Ground Zero Research Opinion Polls. The saffron party may secure 42% vote share, Samajwadi Party may bag around 37%, BSP may get somewhere around 13% while Congress and Others may get around 4% each vote share. In terms of seat share, then BJP is likely to win 242-244 seats, SP may get 148-150 seats, BSP may get restricted between 4-6, Congress likely to wrap up in 3-5 seats and Others may win between 1-3 seats. Moreover, incumbent Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath continues to remain the top choice for CM in the state, following with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Polling in UP will be held in 7 phases beginning February 10 and the results will be declared on March 10. In February and March, assembly polls are scheduled in 5 states including UP, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand, and Manipur. Many political analysts are also viewing upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh as a trailer for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as its result may reflect the mood of the nation. In 2017 UP assembly election, BJP won with a massive mandate bagging 325 seats out of a total of 403, SP won 54, BSP 19, and Others got only 5 seats. India TV-Ground Zero Research Opinion Poll for Uttar Pradesh: Dec 2021 vs Jan 2022 survey
According to India TV-Ground Zero Research Opinion Poll, both December 2021 and January 2022 survey project that BJP may be able to get the absolute majority in Uttar Pradesh, however, its seat tally may go down from 2017.

In terms of seat share, then BJP may get between 74-78 seats, SP may get 40-44 seats, while BSP, Congress, and Others may get between 1-3 seats each in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh which has 124 assembly seats out of total 403.

BJP to remain top party in Awadh region, but seat tally may go down from 2017
In the Awadh region which has 111 seats, BJP may once again become the top party, however, its seat tally from the 2017 elections may face a setback.
According to the India TV-Ground Zero Research Opinion Poll, BJP may get 66-68 seats, SP may get between 39-41, BSP and Congress may win between 1-3 seats each while Others may not be able to win any seat in the Awadh region.

What's the mood of Brahmins, Yadavs and Muslims in Awadh region
Talking more about the Awadh region, then around 68% of people belonging to the Brahmin community may support the BJP, 14% may side with SP, 9% may support BSP, 7% may favour Congress, and 2% with others.
While on the other side, 11% of Yadavs may go with BJP, 78% may support SP, 5% may side with both BSP and Congress and 1% may go with Others.
Also, 2% Muslim voters may support BJP, 77% with SP, 7% with BSP, 9% with Congress, and 5% with Others.

In Uttar Pradesh's Awadh region which has 111 seats, the BJP may get around 45% vote share, SP may get 35% vote share, Mayawati's BSP may bag 12% vote share, Congress may get 5% vote share and others may also get around 3% vote share.
Comparing it to 2017 results, the BJP may improve its tally according to India TV-Ground Zero Research Opinion Poll.
