Assembly Election 2022 Updates: Yogi Adityanath, Akhilesh Yadav take out roadshows in Lucknow

Exuding confidence in Bharatiya Janata Party's victory in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that the bails of Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) and Congress will be seized. Addressing the election rally in Lakhimpur Kheri, the UP CM said, "After the 3rd phase of voting, BJP will get so many seats and that SP, BSP, Congress' bails will be seized. Earlier, electricity was also politicized. There was a time when there was electricity only on Eid and Muharram but not on Holi and Diwali but no such discrimination exists today. We believe in Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas."

Manohar Singh, brother of Congress' chief ministerial candidate for Punjab Assembly polls, Charanjit Singh Channi, on Sunday said that as per the survey conducted by Congress, he could have won the election from Bassi Pathana constituency, yet he was ignored and was not given a ticket by the party. Singh is now contesting election from the same seat as an independent candidate.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday made a courtesy visit at the residence of former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat in Dehradun. As the meeting came just six days after the recently concluded state assembly polls on February 14, the two leaders discussed the elections, among other issues.

With the formation of the government in 2017, the BJP had chosen Trivendra Singh Rawat, MLA from the Doiwala seat, as its Chief Minister, but he was replaced by Tirath Singh Rawat in March 2021.

The Election Commission on Saturday disallowed BJP leader and Telangana MLA T Raja Singh for threatening people to vote for his party in Uttar Pradesh and barred him from campaigning for 72 hours. The 72-hour ban began at 6 pm on Saturday. "Now, therefore, Commission, without prejudice to any Order/Notice issued or to be issued in the matter, hereby, deplores the impugned statements made by Sh. T. Raja Singh, Member of Telangana Legislative Assembly from Bharatiya Janata Party and censures him for the above said violation," the official order read.

Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh has supported Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas and demanded that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal issue a statement against the Khalistan movement. Singh, in a tweet in Hindi on Saturday night said, “Kumar Vishwas has made a very simple demand. Kejriwal ji should give a statement against Khalistan. Kejriwal ji should not have any objection to this." 

Claiming that Congress will form the government in Uttarakhand, former chief minister and party leader Harish Rawat on Saturday said that he will request Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi to take a call on the party's chief ministerial face. Rawat said, "Congress party is going to form the government in Uttarakhand. People have voted for development. This development (voting) has happened in favour of Congress. Knowing this, the Bharatiya Janata Party is tense and anxious. It clearly shows that BJP is going to lose elections in the state."

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday alleged that the BJP in Uttar Pradesh has no issue to talk about other than conversion and communalism. Addressing public meetings in support of Congress candidates in Lucknow, Baghel said the election results this time would clearly reflect the triumph of issues such as inflation, unemployment and the politics of caste and religion because this time, people are voting on these. "The BJP does not have any issue other than conversion and communalism but 'kath ki handi baar-baar nahi chadhti (raising the same issue again and again does not yield results every time)'," he said.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath slammed Samajwadi Party over firing at Lord Ram devotees in 1990 and said that those who had done so could never build the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. "Development is not on their (Samajwadi Party) agenda... those who shot at Ram bhakts and put locks on Ram temples could have never constructed Ram temple in Ayodhya," said Adityanath at a rally in Lucknow.

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav's uncle and chief of Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohiya), Shivpal Singh Yadav on Saturday while expressing confidence over the victory of SP's alliance. "SP alliance will win all nearby seats. BJP will try but won't be able to do anything... BJP will get to know the reality on March 10 when the result will be announced. This coalition will cross over 300 seats," said Shivpal Yadav who is contesting from Jaswantnagar seat in Etawah district. 

"I have always got a good number of votes from Jaswantnagar seat. In 2012 I got 1,33,000 votes, in 2017 I had got 1,26,000 votes. Now this time they fielded a weak candidate, I am assured that I will win with a good number of votes," Shivpal added.
