Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed the verdict of the people in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh where counting for Assembly elections is currently underway.

Trends and results for the two states showed the BJP retaining power in Gujarat where the party has been in power for the past 22 years. At 3:40 pm, BJP was leading from 99 seats for which trends or results were declared, just 7 ahead of the halfway mark.

In Himachal Pradesh, the BJP’s win looks more comfortable where it is leading on 43 of 68 seats, while the Congress was leading on 21.

Taking to Twitter to thank the electorate and party workers, PM Modi, in a series of tweets, said: “I bow to the people of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh for their affection and trust in BJP. I assure them that we will leave no stone unturned in furthering the development journey of these states and serve the people tirelessly.”

PM Modi said election results in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh indicate a strong support for politics of good governance and development.

“I salute the hardworking BJP Karyakartas in these states for their hardwork which has led to these impressive victories,” the PM said.

As early trends began to come in, PM Modi was among the first leaders to react on camera by flashing a victory sign.
