Assembly Elections 2022 LIVE: One thing is certain that Opposition will not come back, says CM Adityanath
Five poll-bound states are Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa and Punjab. Elections in these states will be held in February-March next year.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Opposition parties, saying 'previous governments didn't reduce the burden on people, instead they themselves were a burden'. Speaking on the floor of the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said that the BJP government provided free ration, free vaccines and free medicines to the people of the state. "This is what 'sabka sath, sabka vikas' means," he said, adding that "one thing is certain that many of you (Opposition) will not come back". In another related development, Samajwadi Party's national president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday met his estranged uncle Shivpal Yadav in Lucknow, triggering talks about a possible 'patch up' between the two just ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. According to reports, Akhilesh was accompanied by scores of Samajwadi Party workers donning red caps when he arrived at Shivpal's residence here. Shivpal Yadav, 66, who heads the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL), is demanding 100 seats from Akhilesh. Shivpal had even hinted that he is prepared to merge his PSPL in the Samajwadi Party provided Akhilesh assures that his supporters would get due respect. Notably, Shivpal had met his elder brother and SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav in Lucknow last month. It was then reported that Shivpal discussed the issue of alliance or merger with him. Uttar Pradesh and four other states (Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa) will go to the polls early next year. Although the dates are yet to be announced, all the political parties have started flexing their muscles in the poll-bound states.
