Maharashtra Assembly elections 2019 LIVE: In Amravati assembly constituency, Congress's Sulbha Khodke has registered a victory. She was contesting against Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Sunil Panjabrao Deshmukh. She bagged Amravati assembly constituency seat by a comfortable margin of 18,268 votes. This is a big jolt to Deshmukh who was sitting MLA from the constituency. In 2014, Deshmukh had registered a comfortable victory against Congres' Raosaheb Shekhawat.
Defeat in 2019 elections has come as shock to Deshmukh considering he had bagged 52 per cent of the votes polled in 2014 Maharashtra Assembly elections.
In initial rounds of counting of votes, Deshmukh was leading but Sulbha Khodke soon caught up and registered a victory.
Voting for Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections took place on October 21.
Shiv Sena contested on 124 of 288 seats in Maharashtra assembly, whereas the BJP fought 164 seats in its quota. The Congress and the NCP contested 125 seats each.
Shiv Sena-BJP combine is well on its way to form next government in Maharashtra. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is likely to continue in the chief ministerial office.
Though Congress and NCP will sit in Opposition, it seems that their alliance will improve their tally as compared to that in 2014 assembly elections.
