Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2018: Polling to begin on November 28; vote counting on December 11

The term for the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly expires on January 7, 2019.

The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday announced date for Assembly election in Madhya Assembly. Polling in the state will be conducted in a single phase, on November 28, the Election Commission said. Counting of votes will take place on December 11.

Addressing a press conference in Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat said the term for the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly expires on January 7, 2019.

The state assembly has 230 seats.

Polling, vote counting in 5 states

Madhya Pradesh is being ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since the last 15 years as the incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took over the reins of power on 29 November 2005.

The state Assembly has 231 members out of which 230 are elected directly by the people while one member is nominated by the Governor.

Madhya Pradesh will witness a direct contest between the ruling BJP and the Congress.
