The convoy of West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers days before the sixth round of polling in West Bengal.
The incident took place in Khejuri in East Midnapore's Khejuri on Tuesday evening.
NEDA chief and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present in the convoy. While they escaped unhurt, two cars were vandalised.
BJP is claiming that their candidate was attacked in the campaign trail by TMC. On the other TMC is saying that their rally was attacked by members of the saffron party.
Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was also part of the convoy, shared a series of tweets in connection with the attack alleging that the "TMC goons had blocked the roads but the West Bengal Police did not help them."
"I am appalled at such brazen abuse of power by Mamata Banerjee whose people have thrown all democratic norms to the gutter. Is this the New India that we dream of?" read one of Sharma's tweet.
Khejuri is under Kanthi Lok Sabha constituency which goes to polls on 12th May. So far, five phases of polling has taken place in West Bengal and violence has been reported in each of them.
