An application has been filed before the NIA court against 2008 Malegaon blast accused Pragya Thakur seeking cancellation of her candidature for Lok Sabha polls 2019 from Bhopal seat.
The applicant, the father of a blast victim, has questioned Thakur's candidature citing she had got bail on the ground of her poor health, but "she is healthy enough to fight the election."
Sadhvi Pragya Thakur joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday and the party fielded her to contest 2019 Lok Sabha election from Bhopal constituency. She will be fighting against the two-time chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh, who is contesting on Congress' ticket.
Sadhvi Pragya, who was given bail last year, had expressed her desire to contest election against Digvijaya Singh.
On September 29, 2008, Six people were killed and over 100 were injured by an explosive device which was strapped on a motorcycle near a mosque in Malegaon in North Maharashtra. She was found accused and later was given clean chit by NIA.
However, in December 2018, a special NIA court refused to discharge her from the case. Last year, she was granted bail by Bombay High Court.
Polls in Bhopal are scheduled to be held on May 12.
