Karnataka BJP leader V Srinivasa Prasad has slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for accusing former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi of corruption.
Prasad said that PM Modi shouldn't have spoken like that.
The six-time MP and former state minister of Karnataka said, on Wednesday, "Allegations against him in the Bofors scam are not acceptable. Modi should not have spoken like that against Rajiv Gandhi. It was unnecessary to take his name."
He also rebutted Modi's statement that the former prime minister had died due to corruption allegations.
"LTTE planned and assassinated Rajiv Gandhi and he did not die of corruption allegations," he said.
Earlier at an election rally in Uttar Pradesh, PM Modi labelled Congress president Rahul Gandhi's father, late Rajiv Gandhi, as 'bhrashtachari no 1'. While addressing the rally, he said, "Your father was termed 'Mr Clean' by his courtiers, but his life ended as 'bhrashtachari no 1'."
Remembering Gandhi's tenure, Prasad said "I have lots of respect for Modi but even tallest of leaders, like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, have said many good things about Rajiv Gandhi. I have myself seen him take a huge responsibility at a small age."
