The Opposition parties led by the Congress are trying hard to stitch a Grand Alliance or Mahagathbandhan to stop the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) from returning to power in 2019. However, it's going to be an uphill task for the Congress to keep all the parties together.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav have already shown their disinterest in taking the Congress along in Uttar Pradesh. Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has raised objections to calls for declaring Rahul Gandhi as the PM face against Narendra Modi for 2019 Lok Sabha poll.
Regional parties like Upendra Kushwaha's RLSP and several others are likely to push for more seats to contest. Satisfying all the demands is a mighty challenge for the Grand Alliance.
Amid all these disputes, can a formidable Grand Alliance take shape which can pose any threat to the BJP in 2019?
