The campaign for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018 is getting shriller by the day with both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking pot-shots against each other. A day after Congress targeted PM Narendra Modi by releasing an old photo of him with rape convicted Asaram, the BJP hit back on Thursday comparing Rahul Gandhi with Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar.

Responding to a tweet by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah which said that the Rahul Gandhi has established an instant connect with the youth of the state, the BJP predicted that the ruling party will suffer a humiliating defeat in the May 12 polls.

"Sir, youth in Karnataka not just like Rahul Gandhi, they love him...for his jokes," the cheeky tweet from the official handle of Karnakata BJP said.

"Congress's defeat in Karnataka will be the last blow for Rahul Gandhi, the Bahadur Shah Zafar of Congress. With him will sink the Congress party, like the Mughal dynasty, once and for all," it went on to add.

Earlier in the day, the BJP posted its agenda for the Karnataka Assembly elections and stressed that development was at the core of the party's election manifesto.

"We have a three-pronged agenda for Karnataka, -Development -Fast paced development -All round Development BJP has given primary importance for politics of development!" the BJP said.

It took the Congress just minutes to take dig at the BJP's tweet. The Congress went out and accused the saffron party of fielding 'tainted' candidates in the polls. The Congress pointed out that the BJP has given tickets to scores of 'corrupt' leaders like former CM BS Yeddyurappa and the Reddy brothers.

"The BJP has a three-pronged agenda for Karnataka - development of corrupt Yeddy-Reddys, fast-paced development of corrupt Yeddy-Reddys and all-round development of corrupt Yeddy-Reddys. The BJP has given primary importance to politics of corruption," the Congress's tweet accompanied with hashtag 'Karnataka Defeats BJP', read.
