All 8000 candidates who appeared for an examination for the post of accountant in Goa, failed the test. In a Tuesday notification issued by Goa's director of accounts, it was confirmed that none of the candidates who appeared for the initial recruitment examination held on January 7 this year secured minimum qualifying marks.
The candidates were required to score a minimum of 50 marks, out of the total 100 to qualify the exam, but none got through, said a senior official.
A 100-marks paper in English, general knowledge and accounts-related questions were a part of the five-hour examination, the official said.
Post the successful qualification, the candidates were supposed to undergo a round of oral interview before the final selection.
Criticising the delay in announcement of results, Aam Aadmi Party's Goa general secretary Pradeep Padgaonkar said the failing of all 8,000 candidates is a sad commentary on the "collapse" of the state's education system.
It is a "big shame" on the Goa University and the commerce colleges that produce these graduates, he added.
80 posts of accountant in the common account cadre were advertised by the directorate of accounts in October last year.
