The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a batch of pleas seeking postponement of the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET). The pleas were heard by a bench led by Justice Ashok Bhushan.
The petitions came after Supreme Court dismissed pleas last week, including the one filed by ministers of six-opposition-ruled states, seeking review of its August 17 order which paved the way for holding NEET and JEE exams physically.
On August 17, the apex court had dismissed a plea seeking postponement of JEE (Main) April 2020 and NEET-Undergraduate examinations amid spurt in number of COVID-19 cases.
According to the National Testing Agency (NTA), 15.97 lakh candidates from across the country have registered for NEET, which is a pen-paper based test unlike JEE.
In order to maintain social distancing, the NTA has increased the number of centres from 2,546 to 3,843 for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) while the number of candidates per room has been reduced from earlier 24 to 12.
