Assam board to introduce ‘Bihu’ as a subject for higher secondary course from 2020
The students who chooses Bihu as their elective subject would have to appear for a 100-mark question paper, which would have both theory and practical segments.
The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) is set to introduce Bihu, an indigenous folk dance from the state, as an elective subject for the higher secondary course curriculum from 2020.
The announcement, according to local media, came after AHSEC organised a workshop with several Bihu experts and academicians to chalk out a roadmap for to work on the contents of Bihu textbooks and decide on the curriculum and syllabus.
The students who chooses Bihu as their elective subject would have to appear for a 100-mark question paper, which would have both theory and practical segments.
Discussions on preparing textbooks and working out other modalities are being held by the concerned officials, local media quoted AHSEC chairman Dr Dayananda Borgohain as saying.
“We are looking to include Bihu as an elective vocational subject in higher secondary course. Modalities are being work out. We met today to discuss preparation of textbooks and other aspects,” Dr Borgohain said.
It may be noted that Sattriya dance, one of the eight principal classical Indian dance, is already an elective subject in the HS Arts Stream.
