West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is presently in Delhi to attend the NITI Aayog's Governing Council meeting, met Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Friday.
The details about their meeting were shared by the Aam Aadmi Party's social media handle, which showed Sunita Kejriwal extending a warm welcome to the TMC supremo at her residence in Delhi and introducing the latter to the Delhi CM's parents also.
Bengal CM expresses solidarity with AAP
Significantly, AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, who was also present during the meeting between the TMC supremo and Arvind Kejriwal's family, said the West Bengal CM expressed solidarity with AAP and the Delhi CM.
"West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee visited the residence of CM Arvind Kejriwal to meet his wife and parents," the AAP MP said.
"She was concerned about the health of Arvind Kejriwal... She gave the message that in this hour of struggle, she stands with AAP and Arvind Kejriwal," he added.
Kejriwal’s arrest ‘blatant assault on democracy’
Meanwhile, it is pertinent to note that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been critical of the investigative agencies over their move to arrest Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in the Excise Policy scam.
Earlier, in a direct attack against PM Modi during the poll campaigning, Mamata had slammed the Center's decision over the arrest of Chief Ministers Hemant Soren (at present released on bail) and Arvind Kejriwal. "Whom are you trying to intimidate? If five of our workers or polling agents are arrested, their wives will take their place. We are not afraid of the agencies. Why was a tribal leader and Chief Minister Hemant Soren arrested? I spoke with his wife yesterday," she said.
"Why was Arvind Kejriwal arrested? Despite being in jail, he continues to work. However, this will not affect his chances in the next election; in fact, he is likely to win with a larger margin," the Bengal chief minister added.
