Swati Maliwal assault case: Delhi court dismisses second regular bail plea of accused Bibhav Kumar

Bibhav Kumar's earlier bail plea was dismissed by Tis Hazari court on May 27. Swati Maliwal has accused him of hitting her at Delhi CM house in the morning of May 13, while she was there to meet Arvind Kejriwal.

In a fresh develoment in Swati Maliwal assault case, Delhi's Tis Hazari Court on Friday dismissed the second regular bail application moved by accused Bibhav Kumar, former aide of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. 

Notably, this was the second bail plea moved by Kumar. Earlier on May 27, he moved his first plea whic was dismissed by the Tis Hazari court after hearing arguments of both the parties. Notably, Kumar was arrested on May 18. Later, he was sent to 5-day police custody following a14-day judicila custody by Tis Hazari court on June 1.

What happened so far in the case?

The case came to light when Delhi PCR received a call from Delhi CM house allegedly made by Swati Maliwal in the early hours of May 13. Later, AAP Rajya Sabha MP alleged that Kumar slapped her seven to eight times, 'kicked on the chest, stomach, and pelvis area,' at the Delhi CM house while she was there to meet CM Arvind Kejriwal. She also accused Kumar of threatening her to kill.

After the case was registered, Delhi Police seized the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) along with other documents from the CM house and sent it to the forensic lab. Moreover, Kumar was also taken to the drawing room of Kejriwal's residence where he had allegedly assaulted Maliwal, to find out details about the sequence of events that took place on the morning of May 13.

SIT investigating the case

Meanwhile, an SIT was also formed to investigate the case. The SIT led by Anjitha Chepyala, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for North Delhi has been handling the investigation. It also includes three Inspector-rank officers, the officer from the Civil Lines Police Station, where the case was filed.
