Swati Maliwal assault case: Delhi Police to record statement of CM Arvind Kejriwal's family, say sources

Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi's CM, announced via social media that Delhi Police would question his elderly and sick parents in the Swati Maliwal assault case. This development follows Swati Maliwal's statements, where she mentioned meeting Kejriwal's wife and parents during her visit to the CM's house.

Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi's Chief Minister, has made a significant claim. He stated that Delhi Police would now question his elderly and sick parents. Taking to the social media platform X, he asserted, "Tomorrow, Delhi Police will question my elderly and sick parents." This move comes amid the alleged assault case involving Swati Maliwal. The police aim to record statements from all individuals present at the house when the incident occurred.

Sources from the Delhi Police revealed that Swati Maliwal, in her statements, mentioned meeting Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, and his parents before returning to the drawing room during her visit to the CM's house. For the past two days, a female Investigation Officer (IO) from the Delhi Police has been attempting to contact the family members to record their statements. The IO has requested a suitable time from the family members for this purpose.

Statements from Kejriwal's family sought

According to sources, Delhi Police intended to question Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind Kejriwal's wife, along with his parents. A female officer has requested a meeting with all three to record their statements, but as of now, no time has been provided. If they fail to visit the police station, officers plan to conduct inquiries at their residence.

Swati Maliwal's account

According to sources, Swati Maliwal narrated her version of events before a magistrate. She described that when she visited the CM's residence on May 13, Sunita Kejriwal and Arvind Kejriwal's parents were having breakfast. Maliwal greeted them and then went to the dining hall, where she was allegedly assaulted after an argument ensued.

Kejriwal's response

Arvind Kejriwal responded for the first time since the incident came to light. He emphasised the need for a fair investigation and justice in the matter. Kejriwal stated, "The matter is currently sub judice, and my comment might affect the proceedings. But I expect there will be a fair investigation. Justice should be served. There are two versions of the event. Police should investigate both versions fairly, and justice should be done."

Maliwal's allegations

Swati Maliwal had earlier accused certain members of the party of pressuring her. She alleged that attempts were being made to tarnish her reputation and that anyone supporting her would face consequences. She emphasised the need for consistency between words and actions, highlighting the seriousness of the matter.
