Cong snatched OBCs rights, declared Jamia-Millia a minority institution, gave 50% quota to Muslims: PM Modi

Addressing a rally in Dwarka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the BJP's development model is committed to 'nation first' but for the Congress and the INDIA grouping, the only agenda is 'family first'.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday slammed the Congress for secretly changing the status of Jamia Millia Islamia Central University in New Delhi which allowed reservation on 50 per cent of seats for the Muslims and alleged that the 'Grand Old Party' worked towards snatching the rights of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes (OBC), Dalits, Tribals in higher education.

Addressing a rally in Delhi, which will vote in Lok Sabha elections on May 25, PM Modi said that the Congress worked to snatch the rights of our SC-ST-OBC, Dalit, tribal brothers and sisters in higher education. The whole country knows how much injustice the Congress has done to our SC-ST-OBC, Dalit, tribal brothers and sisters. The Congress government quietly played a trick and declared Jamia-Millia University a minority institution. This made 50 per cent reservation for Muslims applicable in it."

For 60 years, Jamia Millia Islamia was running as a regular central university where SC-ST-OBC, Dalit, tribal brothers and sisters used to get reservations just like in other institutions. But to win the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, the Congress-led government in 2011 secretly changed its status and announced it as a minority university.

Due to this, the Muslims started getting 50 per cent reservation in Jamia Millia Islamia.

Further hitting out at the Congress, PM Modi said, "Many times, despite telling a million lies, the truth still comes to the fore. Today, the 'shehzada' of Congress accepted a big truth... 'shehhzada' has accepted that the system in place during the times of his grandmother, his father and his mother was against the Dalits, backwards and Adivasis."

"It is time that the country recognises these communal people... In Delhi, my Sikh brothers and sisters were burnt alive by putting ablaze tyres on their necks... Today, every party standing under Congress' umbrella is guilty of the Sikh massacre. PM Modi is giving justice to the victims of the Sikh riots. We made an SIT and we punished the accused Congress leaders. For the INDI Alliance, nothing is more important than their vote bank...," PM Modi lambasted the Congress.
