Ahead of the Phase 6 polling for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, liquor stores and other licensed premises in Delhi, Faridabad, and Gurugram on will remain shut till May 25. Additionally, there will be a ban on liquor sales in these cities on June 4, the day of the election results announcement.
"This measure is aimed at maintaining law and order and preventing any undue influence on voters," the Election Commission has said.
Dry Days in Delhi
According to a notification issued by the excise department, liquor stores and other licensed premises in Delhi will be closed nearly 48 hours before the end of the poll, from 6 PM on May 23 to 6 PM on May 25. Additionally, no liquor will be sold on June 4, the vote-counting day for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
Dry Days in Haryana
Similarly, Gurugram, which also goes to the polls on May 25, will observe dry days. The Gurugram district administration has ordered all liquor shops in the city to remain closed for 48 hours ahead of the election. Liquor sales will also be prohibited on June 4, the day scheduled for vote counting.
Phase 6 of Lok Sabha Elections 2024
A total of 58 constituencies across eight states and union territories will go to the polls on Saturday, May 25, for Phase 6 of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Voting will begin at 7 AM and conclude at 6 PM. The vote counting will be held on June 4, followed by the announcement of the election results.
