The Delhi Police has invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against notorious gangster Hashim Baba, a close associate of Lawrence Bishnoi, along with 8-10 other members of the Bishnoi gang. Hashim Baba, who is involved in more than a dozen criminal cases including murder conspiracy, extortion, arms, and passport violations, has been in Tihar Jail since 2020.
MCOCA charges extended to Baba's gang
Police sources revealed that in addition to Hashim Baba, other key gang members such as Rashid Cablewala, Sachin Golu, Sohail, and Shahrukh have also been booked under MCOCA. These individuals have been engaged in organised criminal activities on behalf of Baba’s gang for an extended period. The police have tightened their grip on the gang with the invocation of this tough anti-crime law.
Tougher bail restrictions under MCOCA
MCOCA, originally enacted by the Maharashtra government in 1999 and implemented in Delhi in 2002, is aimed at curbing organised crime and underworld activities. Under this law, obtaining bail becomes extremely difficult, and those charged are typically kept behind bars until the investigation concludes. To impose MCOCA, the accused must have been involved in at least two organised crimes within the last 10 years.
