As heavy rain continued to lash parts of Delhi NCR, emergency services at Indira Gandhi International Airport sprang into action following a roof collapse incident at Terminal 1.
According to the officials, the incident occurred around 5:00 am on Friday. "Due to heavy rain since early this morning, a portion of the canopy at the old Departure forecourt of Delhi Airport's Terminal 1 collapsed," the officials said
"There are injuries reported, and emergency personnel are working to provide all necessary assistance and medical aid to those affected," they added.
Significantly, according to the current information available, of the six injured in a roof collapse incident, a man being treated at the hospital succumbed to his injuries. "Man injured in Delhi airport roof collapse incident dies during a treatment in hospital," a police official was quoted saying.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu reached the accident site, i.e., at the terminal 1 of the Delhi airport where a canopy collapse has caused significant damage icluding to that of lossing a human life.

Meanwhile in the aftermath of the tragic incident, the Civil Aviation Ministry has stated that a team has been constituted to ascertain the exact cause that had led to the canopy collapsed. Earlier, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu stated that a team a the rescue operation is currently undergoing at the incident site.
Services from Terminal 1 temporarily stand suspended
Amid the fast-paced rescue operation being carried out at the Terminal 1, the DIAL (Delhi International Airport Limited) spokesperson informed that, all departures are temporarily suspended, and check-in counters are closed as a safety measure.
He said, "Due to heavy rain since early this morning, a portion of the canopy at the old Departure forecourt of Delhi Airport's Terminal 1 collapsed around 5 am. There are injuries reported, and emergency personnel are working to provide all necessary assistance and medical aid to those affected. As a result of this incident, all departures from Terminal 1 are temporarily suspended, and check-in counters are closed as a safety measure. We sincerely regret this disruption and apologize for any inconvenience caused."
Further, the Spice Jet has announced the cancelation of its flights. In a statement released, it said, "Due to bad weather (heavy rains), SpiceJet flights have been cancelled as Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport will remain partially closed for operations until further notice."
