Delhi news: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal moved Motion of Confidence in the Delhi Assembly today (February 16). The proceedings of the House will take place tomorrow (February 17) and the Motion will be taken up for discussion.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said, "We can see that parties are being broken and governments are being toppled in other states by slapping false cases. In Delhi, they intend to arrest AAP leaders under the pretext of liquor policy case. They want to topple the Delhi Government because they know that they can never win the election in Delhi. To show the people that none of our MLAs broke away and all of them are intact, I present a Confidence Motion."

Delhi CM on excise policy scam case

“This so-called liquor scam is not a scam at all. They (BJP) do not want to carry out an fair investigation. All the AAP leaders have been arrested under the guise of this scam. Their only aim is to topple the Delhi government by one means or another.”

Seeking the vote of confidence in the Assembly, he said, "Two MLAs had come to me saying they were contacted by BJP members offering them Rs 25 crore each. They were told that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be arrested and the government will be toppled."

Claiming that the Delhi excise policy case was false, he alleged the BJP wanted to topple the AAP government. A Delhi court has asked Kejriwal to appear before it on February 17 on a complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for skipping summons in an excise policy-linked case and noted that prima facie the AAP chief was legally bound to comply.

Arvind Kejriwal earlier said he will seek vote of confidence in the Assembly on Friday. The announcement came days after he alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tried to poach Aam Aadmi Party MLAs and topple his government."I will bring the vote of confidence in Delhi Assembly today," Kejriwal said in a post on X in Hindi.

The AAP is likely to raise the issue of repeated summons to CM Kejriwal in connection with the excise policy-linked money laundering case. The enforcement directorate (ED) on Wednesday sent the sixth summon to him for questioning in the case, a party source said.

The AAP has repeatedly alleged that the multiple summonses are an attempt to crush the party by arresting Kejriwal and toppling the government in Delhi. The budget for 2024-25 will be presented by Finance Minister Atishi in the Delhi Assembly's Budget session, began on February 15 and will end on February 21.

The government will also table its outcome budget and Delhi's economic survey report during the session, officials added.
