Arvind Kejriwal CBI questioning: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today (April 16) for questioning in connection with the case pertaining to alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy of the Union Territory government. Delhi CM was questioned for nearly nine hours by the probing agency. Kejriwal expressed his gratitude towards CBI for its hospitality and further said that the "liquor scam is fake and a result of dirty politics." While addressing a press conference in the national capital hours before his questioning, CM Kejriwal said, "CBI called me today and I will definitely go. They are very powerful, they can send anyone to jail. If BJP has ordered CBI to arrest me, then CBI will obviously follow their instructions." Aam Aadmi Party staged a protest in the national capital during the questioning of party supremo at the CBI office. Kejriwal has been summoned by the CBI in connection with the Delhi Excise policy case, to which the CM earlier said he would appear for questioning. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann accompanied Kejriwal to the CBI office on Sunday. During his visit to the CBI office, Kejriwal's cabinet colleagues and all the MPs of AAP were with him. Over 1,000 security personnel, including paramilitary forces, was deployed outside the CBI headquarters in Lodhi Road on Sunday in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 case. According to officials, security measures was heightened outside AAP office located near Rouse Avenue Court. To prevent any trouble from AAP workers or supporters, an adequate number of barricades were also set up on the surrounding streets.

    Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was questioned by the CBI on Sunday for nearly nine hours in connection with the excise policy scam case, officials said. The AAP chief, who arrived at the heavily fortified agency headquarters at around 11 am in his official black SUV, was taken to the first-floor office of the Anti Corruption Branch where he was quizzed by the investigation team, they said. Kejriwal waved to the waiting mediapersons as he left the building at around 8.30 pm after nearly nine hours of questioning. The chief minister had a lunch break during the day, they said. AAP leader Manish Sisodia was arrested on February 26 after nearly eight hours of questioning in the case with officials saying his answers were not satisfactory. He later quit as deputy chief minister of Delhi. Senior officials of the agency remained present in the office on Sunday to keep an eye on the development, a normal course whenever a VIP comes to the agency, they said.

    Punjab minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Sunday defended Delhi's excise policy for which Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was summoned for questioning by the CBI, saying his state had benefited by following the same blueprint. The Punjab Finance minister also slammed the BJP-led central government for "targeting" the AAP supremo, saying it is scared of the Delhi chief minister's "rising popularity". Cheema, who also holds the Excise portfolio, said the same policy implemented in Punjab led to a 41 per cent jump in revenues from liquor. "If it was not a good policy, then how come the revenue increased so much?" he asked while accusing the BJP of not wanting to end the liquor mafia in the country. Kejriwal was on Sunday questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the excise policy case amid protests by his party as the AAP chief accused the agency of acting at the behest of the BJP.

    Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Sunday slammed the BJP for "targeting" AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, saying it is scared of the Delhi chief minister's "rising popularity".
    Kejriwal was on Sunday questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the excise policy case amid protests by his party as the AAP chief accused the agency of acting at the behest of the BJP. The Delhi chief minister was summoned as a witness and is not an accused in the excise policy case in which his former deputy Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26. Sisodia was last month arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED)and is in judicial custody. Cheema condemned the BJP-led Centre for summoning Kejriwal and dubbed it a "murder of democracy". "Today, the BJP's dictatorial attitude has been exposed before the people," he told reporters.

    AAP workers on Sunday tried to gherao the CBI office here on Sunday as they protested against the Centre over the probe agency's questioning of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case, but the police thwarted their attempt. Later, the party workers blocked the Tonk Road at the Narayan Singh Circle and raised slogans against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government. Kejriwal reached the heavily fortified headquarters of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Delhi at around 11 am. The questioning was still continuing till 5:30 pm.     Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was questioned by the CBI on Sunday in the excise policy case, amid protests by his Aam Aadmi Party which accused the agency of acting at the behest of the BJP. In a five-minute video message on Twitter before arriving at the heavily fortified headquarters of the Central Bureau of Investigation at around 11 am, Kejriwal claimed that the BJP might have ordered the agency to arrest him. The AAP chief, who received solidarity messages from a number of opposition leaders after being summoned by the agency, asserted that he would honestly answer questions posed by the CBI in the excise case as he has nothing to hide. The BJP, which accused Kejriwal of indulging in theatrics to divert attention from corruption, has dared him to undergo a lie-detector test and said it was not the time for rhetoric but accountability. Kejriwal visited Mahatma Gandhi's memorial at Raj Ghat this morning and was accompanied by his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann and some cabinet colleagues to the CBI office.

    As the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case of the Union Territory government, a top official of India's premier probing agency on Sunday said the CBI investigate matters on merits. "We investigate the matter on merits," the official told media. Kejriwal on Sunday said that the central agency will arrest him if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has given the orders.In a video message released on Sunday morning, Kejriwal said, "They (CBI) have called me today and I will definitely go. "We have put in place a comprehensive security arrangement, and as he is a Chief Minister, there will undoubtedly be tight security for his safety," said a senior police officer.
