An elderly man allegedly killed his daughter-in-law after an argument broke out over a light bulb, said police. The incident took place on Monday night in central Delhi's Paharganj.

According to reports, 65-year-old man slit his 33-year-old daughter-in-law's throat with a knife after they two got engaged in an argument over an increase in electricity bill and a light bulb at their house.

The deceased woman identified as Neeraj Devi has removed the light bulb in the kitchen which led to an argument between her mother-in-law and father-in-law Bhagat Ram. Following this, Ram grabbed Neeraj Devi and slit her throat with a knife.

“Ram told us that Neeraj Devi often picked fights with him and his wife, Hukum Devi, for the past some years as she had some disagreements with her husband, Darshan,” a police officer, associated with the case, was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The accused has alleged that Neeraj Devi removed light bulbs from the staircase, kitchen, and bathroom in order to trouble her in-laws.  Ram told that this happened because he had pointed out Rs 6,000 electricity bill of last month, two days before the incident.

Meanwhile, the deceased woman's family members accused her in-laws of domestic violence and harassment.
