A four-year-old girl was strangulated to death by her father after he failed to stop her from crying. The incident was reported from Ghaziabad, where the 28-year-old man, an autorickshaw driver by profession killed his daughter and was caught roaming with her dead body in his autorickshaw. According to a report with The Times Of India, the accused was identified as Vasudev Gupta and was already upset after his wife had left him around 20 days back. He was further triggered when he could not stop his daughter from crying and then killed her on Thursday.
According to the report, the accused was living with his wife and daughter in a rented house in Khoda Colony for the past few years. His wife used to work at a spa in Noida.
Police told The Times of India that Gupta’s wife left him 20 days ago along with their three-year-old son after a heated argument. She, however, left the four-year-old daughter with Gupta.
On Thursday, the daughter was crying inconsolably for a long time. Gupta strangled her to death after failing to stop her from crying, added the report.
Gupta then wrapped the lifeless body of his daughter in a towel and started roaming around Noida and Khoda Colony in Ghaziabad in search of his wife. The autorickshaw driver was arrested after his younger brother alerted the cops about the incident.
The younger brother Ravi said that he had visited Gupta’s house at 5 pm on Thursday and found that the gate was open. No one was in the house at the time. When Ravi called his brother after that, Gupta told him that he had killed his daughter and was looking for his wife in Noida.
“Immediately, I called the police,” Ravi was quoted saying in the report.
A senior police officer said a search operation to trace Gupta was launched by Noida police soon after his younger brother called. Gupta was nabbed near Sector 11 junction along with the dead body of his daughter wrapped in a towel.
After the arrest, Gupta told police that the girl had been crying constantly and alleged that he was upset as his wife had deserted him for her lover.
While Gupta was searching for his wife in Noida, he did not have her address. A police officer quoted in the report said first Gupta looked for his wife in Khoda Colony and then went to Noida.
Gupta had gone to Noida’s Sector 6 and 8 in search of his wife as her friends lived there. When there refused to provide any information, he decided to dump his daughter’s body outside the spa in Sector 63 — the same one where his wife worked.
Soon after he was held, Noida police alerted their Ghaziabad counterparts. A police team from Ghaziabad then took Gupta into custody. An FIR has been lodged against Gupta under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and a local court has sent him to judicial custody.
His daughter’s body has been sent for autopsy and a report is now awaited. Police are also searching for the baby’s mother.
