In a significant news, an encounter broke out between the Naxalites and the security forces in the jungle near Chhattisgarh's pidiya village under Gangaloor PS limits on Friday. The Police said, the exchange of gun fire took place when a team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxal operation in a forest near Pidia village. They said, the area comes under the jurisdiction of the Gangaloor police station limits, and the operation is currently underway.

Furthermore, in the aftermath of the operation, it is pertinent to note that the crackdown on Naxalites had increased significantly in the past few months. While multiple have been killed in the encounters, (with 29 Naxalites gunned down recently in an encounter in Kanker district of the state), a major number of them (Naxalites) have surrendered after being inspired by the rehabilitation programs of the security forces.

Earlier, in a significant relief, six naxalites carrying a bounty of Rs. 36 lahks over them surrendered to the police in Sukma, Chhattisgarh. Elbaorating more on the details, the Police said, the Naxalites surrendered after getting inspired by the 'Puna Narkom' rehabilitation program. Significantly, Puna Narkom is a phrase from the local Gondi dialect, which means "New Dawn."
