Raigarh: A teenager was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, a forest department official said. Raigarh Divisional Forest Officer Stylo Mandavi said that the tragic incident occurred near the Pusalda-Behramuda railway tracks within the Kharsia forest range.
The victim, 17-year-old Laxmi Narayan Dansena, a resident of Kukricholi village, was passing through the area when he encountered the elephant. The wild animal grabbed the teenager with its trunk, threw him to the ground, and trampled him to death.
Upon receiving information about the incident, forest department personnel arrived at the scene and transported the body for a post-mortem examination, Mandavi said.
The deceased teen's family was given immediate relief of Rs 25,000, with the remaining compensation of Rs 5.75 lakh to be disbursed following the completion of necessary formalities, as per state government policy, the official said.
He added that a herd of four elephants—a male, two females, and a calf—has been roaming in the area.
