Oprah Winfrey became the first African-American woman to be honoured with Golden Globes' Cecil B. de Mille award. Dressed in black in protest of sexual harassment prevalent in the industry, Oprah laid emphasis on speaking truth and fighting for justice. She received standing ovation from the audience. ''Speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have. And I'm especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories,'' she said in her speech.
After the powerful speech of Winfrey, 63, #OprahForPresident started trending on Twitter. ''Oprah went from being dirt poor to becoming an ACTUAL self made billionaire, is intelligent, empathetic, hardworking & has done so much humanitarian work on top of being one of the best communicators on earth, why SHOULDN'T she run for president?!,'' tweeted one user. ''If that speech doesn't make you want to change the world, nothing will. #oprahforpresident,'' tweeted another.
When asked backstage whether she is planning to give Oprah 2020 a shot, she clearly denied. "I don't, I don't," she told Bloomberg.
Oprah talked about #MeToo and Time's Up campaign and was introduced by Reese Witherspoon. ''The new day... will be because of a lot of magnificent women and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say 'me too' again,'' she said.
