Who doesn’t like to build a sand castle when on a beach? Well, would you also like to name one as your permanent address? Rio de Janeiro resident Marcio Mizael Matolias has made himself a big sand-castle as his home to save his house rent. With housing crisis in Britain on the peak, Matolias found an interesting solution to his problem and started living in a sand castle.
This has even earned him a new nickname ‘The King’ as he has become a common interest of the tourists. Because of his unique abode and combine passions of reading, golf, and fishing, he has been the center of attraction for many.
As house prices continue to rise, Matolias doesn’t have to think about taxes and paying rent considering he is living in his giant sand-castle for 22-years. Speaking to The Mirror, he explained: “I grew up in the Bay of Guanabara, I always lived on the beach. People pay exorbitant rents to live in front of the sea – I do not have bills, and here I have a good life."
But of course, leading a life in a sand castle does comes with a whole bunch of troubles. The weather cannot always be in your favor. Putting the light on the harsh weather conditions, he said, “The sand holds all the heat, so sometimes at night I can not sleep here, I'll spend the night at a friend's house, but I prefer it here even if I have to lie outside by the sea.”
Besides all the disadvantages, Matolias is relieved about one thing that even if he is evicted or his sand castle breaks down, he can always move to a new stretch of sand and build a home for himself
