They say a dog's life is miserable. But not for this stray named Lily.

Despite that she was half paralyzed and almost buried alive, she survived. And in the most miraculous manner! Just like other days, she was roaming around the streets and schoolyards in Cape Town looking for food.

Her barking didn't go down too well with Manono Makhaphela, Principal of Luhlaza Secondary School Khayelitsha. Annoyed with the ‘nuisance', Makhaphela directed two of the school staff to get rid of her (by burying her alive)!

By the time one of the school kitchen cleaner called the International Fund for Animal Welfare's (IFAW) Mdzananda Animal, Lily was five-foot deep.

After her incredible survival, she was named as the Warrior. Her name was later changed back to Lily. She underwent hydrotherapy, acupuncture and other treatments to gain some mobility in her legs. Lily gained more weight and became healthy.

More days passed and the most unexpected thing happened! Lily got a forever companion and home. She was adopted by freelance journalist and Mdzananda Animal Clinic board member Helen Walne. Today, Lily is a healthy, playful and happy dog.

We salute International Fund for Animal Welfare for their endearing love and continuous support.
