Andhra Pradesh: Doctor tries to inject HIV+ blood into hospital superintendent over personal bitterness

In a frightful incident that took place in Andhra Pradesh's Proddutur district government hospital, a doctor attempted to inject his senior with HIV+ blood. Orthopaedician David Raju lunged at hospital superintendent Dr Lakshmi Prasad with a syringe filled with infected blood and tried to push it inside his body. However, his bid was foiled as one of the staff members noticed the syringe and alerted Dr Prasad. Hence, he managed to ward off the attack. Dr Raju was having personal grudge against superintendent since he reprimanded him for negligence in his duty.

 

According to the sources of Deccan Chronicle, the accused doctor went to top floor of the hospital which is a ward for HIV patients and collected the blood. He then stormed into the chamber of Dr Prasad with the aim of injecting the syringe. During the melee, blood spilled over superintendent and spoiled his shirt. Hospital staffs held Dr Raju and informed police which rushed to the spot. Superintendent demanded stringent action to be taken against the tainted doctor, however, reportedly after hours of negotiations, district authorities convinced him to not lodge the case as this can malign image of hospital.

When District Coordinator of Hospital Service had conversation with both the doctors, the accused said that he was being consistently harassed by superintendent despite of properly delivering his duty. A detailed report has been sent to higher authorities and DCHS has assured for action against Dr Raju, whereas for now he has been sent on leave. Staff Union of hospital staged a protest against the accused doctor asking for strict punishment.
