Shaktikanta Das on Wednesday took charge as the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Das took to social media and expressed gratefulness for the good wishes. "Assumed charge as Governor, Reserve Bank of India. Thank you each and everyone for your good wishes," Das tweeted.
Shaktikanta Das was appointed as new Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor on Tuesday after Urjit Patel had announced his resignation from the central bank on Monday.
"On account of personal reasons, I have decided to step down from my current position effective immediately," Patel had said in a brief statement released by the RBI.
In his statement, Patel thanked his colleagues at the RBI but made no mention of the government or the Finance Ministry.
The new RBI Governor, Shaktikanta Das is a retired 1980 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre.
Earlier, he was a member of the Fifteenth Finance Commission of India. He served in various capacities for Indian and Tamil Nadu governments, during his career as a bureaucrat.
Das retired as Economic Affairs Secretary in May 2017. He has been appointed with the RBI for a term of three years.
