Fuel prices continue to surge across metro cities, petrol in Delhi at Rs 83.85/litre

Prices vary according to local taxes as petroleum is still excluded from the GST regime. Delhi has lower tax among the four major metros.

Petrol in Delhi was priced at Rs 83.85 per litre on Tuesday, up from Rs 83.73 on Monday. Transport fuel prices continued on their daily record-breaking movement, as petrol in the country's financial capital on Tuesday costed Rs 91.20 per litre, according to the data on the Indian Oil Corp website.

Prices of diesel too saw a surge across the metro cities in the country, as it touched Rs 75.25 per litre in Delhi. Diesel in Mumbai costed Rs 79.89 per litre on Tuesday.

On Monday, petrol prices in other key metro cities like Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai were Rs 83.73, Rs 85.53 and Rs 87.05 per litre respectively -- all new levels -- higher than the previous day.

Prices vary according to local taxes as petroleum is still excluded from the GST regime.

Delhi has lower tax among the four major metros.

The increase in transport fuel rates comes amid surging crude oil prices. Currently, Brent crude oil is priced over $83 per barrel.

In tandem with petrol, cost of diesel also rose to hit new highs on Tuesday.
