New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today directed NDMC not to press the demand for Rs 30 crore tax from Hotel Leela venture for keeping the land vacant for some time prior to starting operations in south Delhi till the time the Centre decides on representations given by the hotel and the civic agency.

“...we direct that said representation (made by NDMC before the Ministry of Law on vacant land tax) be disposed of in four weeks,” a bench of justices B D Ahmed and Vibhu Bhakru said and gave four weeks time to the Centre to decide the issue.

The bench fixed the matter for January 20 and said “till that date, the demand (of tax) shall not be imposed (on hotel Leela)”.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by Hotel Leela venture Pvt Ltd challenging the Rs 30 crore vacant land tax being sought by NDMC for a period of 16 months for keeping the land vacant in Chanakyapuri prior to beginning operations.
