New Delhi: Sony has officially launched its Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact smartphones, at Rs. 51,999 and Rs 44.990 respectively, in India. Sony also announced plans to launch the Smartband talk and Smartwatch 3 in December.
Design-wise the new Z3 is different from the earlier phones in the Z series since it now offers curved edges and corners –making it smooth in terms of handling. The phone is easy to grip and feels good in your hand. The device follows Sony's Omnibalance unibody design and uses aluminum on sides (the Z3 compact has plastic sides). The Z3 is marginally slimmer than the Z2, The dust and liquid resistance rating has been upgraded to IP68 which means this phone should be able to survive for up to 30 minutes in fresh water up to 1.5m deep. In terms of ports location, the microSD card slot, the nano SIM slot and the microUSB charging ports are neatly hidden under flaps.
The Z3 has a 5.2-inch full HD IPS screen, Triluminous display with the X-Reality engine, and is powered by 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset along with 3GB RAM. The Z3 comes with Android 4.4.4 out of the box and comes in 16GB as well as 32GB variants. The Z3 sports the same 20.7MP 1 / 2.3-inch sensor camera with a 2.2MP front facing camera. Interesting camera features include Face in, Multi-camera, AR Fun, Time-shift video, background defocus and so on.
The rear camera ca shoot 4K@30fps, 1080p@60fps and 720p@120fps. The battery capacity on the Z3 is 3100mAh, which is a 100mAh less than that on the Z2.
A new feature on the Z3 is the PS4 Remote Play. This allows you to connect your Xperia Z3 to the same wireless network as your PlayStation 4 console, and you can pause the game on your big screen TV and continue from there on your Xperia Z3 using a PS4 controller.
On the other hand, the Xperia Z3 Compact has a 4.6-inch 720p display. The device is powered by a 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset along with 3GB RAM. The smartphone has 20.7MP camera with 1/2.3-type EXMOR-RS CMOS with G Lens, CMOS image, BIONZ for mobile -4K video capture (3840×2160 pixels/30p) with SteadyShot image stabilization, and 2.1MP front camera.
