Mumbai: A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex) surged 204.03 points or 0.73 percent in the noon session on Friday.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 55 points or 0.65 percent up at 8,476 points.
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,849.54 points, was trading at 28,013.38 points (at 12.22 p.m.) up 204.03 points or 0.73 percent from the previous day's close at 27,809.35 points.
The Sensex had touched a high of 28,033.72 points and a low of 27,828.61 points in the intra-day trade so far.
Healthy buying was observed in banking, capital goods, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and healthcare sectors.
The S&P BSE bankex gained by 1.05 percent, capital goods index moved up by 0.87 percent, FMCG index increased by 0.82 percent and healthcare index gained by 0.67 percent.
