New Delhi: Samsung has officially launched its 2015 flagship, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, in India. Both phones will go on sale in India on April 10 with pre-orders starting from Monday.
Samsung Galaxy S6 will cost Rs 49,900 (32 GB), Rs 55,900 (64GB), Rs 61,900 (128GB) while the Galaxy S6 Edge will be priced Rs 58,900 (32 GB), Rs 64,900 (64 GB) and Rs 70,900 (128 GB). This time, Samsung is not offering the 16GB versions of its flagship phones.
The smartphones also come with pre-booking advantages valid from March 23 to April 9.
The two devices were revealed at the Mobile World Congress in the first week of this month and India is among the first countries where Samsung has announced the details about the availability of the phone.
Both the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge come with a revamped design and unlike its previous flagships that used plastic bodies, these two use metal and glass bodies which gives them a more premium finish and feel.
The handsets offer a similar spec sheet but they are different in terms of Dual Edge, battery and dimensions.
The new Galaxy devices sport a 5.1-inch Quad HD(2560×1440)Super AMOLED display at 577ppi. They are powered by a quad 2.1GHz + quad 1.5Ghz, octa-core application processor and run Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.
Both the devices offer a 16MP OIS rear camera and a 5MP front camera. Camera features include: Quick Launch, Tracking AF, Auto Real-time HDR(Front & Rear) , F1.9, Low Light Video(Front & Rear), High Clear Zoom, IR Detect White Balance, Virtual Shot, Slow Motion, Fast Motion, Pro Mode, Selective Focus.
The S6 is powered by a 2,550mAh battery while the S6 Edge has a 2,600mAh battery. These device feature built-in wireless charging- WPC1.1(4.6W Output) & PMA 1.0(4.2W) compatible.
Connectivity options on both the devices include WiFi: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), HT80 MIMO(2×2) 620Mbps, Dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, Mobile hotspot, Bluetooth v4.1, A2DP, LE, apt-X, ANT+, USB 2.0, NFC and IR Remote.
The phone supports 4G network in India, but does not include support for microSD cards.
The S6 and S6 Edge support 3GB LPDDR4 RAM and will be available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB internal storage variants with support for Universal Flash Storage 2.0.
The phones are also the first from Samsung to support wireless charging as a standard feature. In another departure, they have non-removable batteries to make them slimmer. To compensate for the lack of interchangeable batteries, Samsung says a 10-minute charge by cord gives four hours of power.
These devices compete against the likes of iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and the upcoming flagship phones like the HTC One M9.
