Mumbai, Oct 16: The rupee today rose by 14 paise to 52.87 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange, supported by selling of the American currency by exporters and banks.
Besides, a higher opening in the equity market and strengthening of euro against the dollar overseas also supported the rupee, forex dealers said.
The rupee had lost 20 paise to end at 53.01 yesterday on sustained dollar demand from importers. Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex rose further by 65.66 points, or 0.35 per cent, to 18,779.21 in early trade today.
