Mumbai, Jul 18: The rupee depreciated by 10 paise to Rs 55.21 against the dollar in early trade today on the Interbank Foreign Exchange as the American currency strengthened against the euro overseas.
However, sustained foreign funds inflows into the equity market capped the losses, traders said.
The rupee had strengthened by 20 paise to close at 55.11 against dollar in yesterday's trade on fresh selling of US currency by exporters.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark index Sensex rose by 38.52 points, or 0.23 per cent, to 17,143.82.
